Pysanky Ostrich Eggs
- The egg has been described as having the perfect shape, a marvel of nature that has never been improved upon by man-made means. It is also the timeless symbol of rebirth, popular at easter throughout the world, when they are dyed and decorated in many styles. Arguably the most spectacular eggs are created in Ukraine, where the art of decorating eggs is a revered tradition called pysanky. Minute, detailed geometrics and traditional east european symbols are painstakingly applied in coloured layers through a wax resist method similar to Indonesian batik. Ours are unusual, modern day interpretations created in a giant scale on ostrich eggs. They are direct from Ukraine, in brilliant shades of blue. Each one is a painting in the round, a labour of love, a beautiful example of Ukrainian folk art. Artisan made pieces. No two alike. Let us choose one for you. Stand not included.
