Vintage Ex-Votos From Peru
- Ex-votos are found in one form or another in Italy, Greece, Lebanon, Peru, Brazil, Mexico – wherever one comes across someone who is need of hope and help. Each country’s ex-votos take on different indigenous forms, but they are universally a version of a shiny metal plaque, naively depicting embossed images of the subject of supplication. They are offered to an icon or shrine to ask for the fulfillment of a particular need or given in gratitude for a request granted. They can depict many different images – from eyes to hands to people, animals, homes, events and more. Our selection of miniature Peruvian ex-votos are classics – small rectilinear shapes with detailed borders depicting a variety of hands and arms. Mini works of folk art, they remind us never to abandon our hopes and dreams. Of course we like them in groups. Because we have a lot of hope. Vintage finds from our cabinet of curiosities. No two alike.
